In this post, I’ll show you how to make one of our favorite side dishes. These garlic butter sautéed mushrooms are so flavorful and pair nicely with so many dishes, especially steaks or other proteins. Bathed in white wine and herbs, you’ll never want to make mushrooms any other way. So, here we go!
Specialty Kitchen Equipment and Ingredients Needed
For this recipe, you likely have most of what you’ll need on hand in terms of kitchenware. But these are the supplies I recommend:
I recommend a cast iron pan because they sear better in my opinion which adds depth of flavor. But, if you don’t have a cast iron, any large pan should be fine. Just make sure you have enough room to keep the mushrooms from overcrowding.
In terms of specialty ingredients, these sautéed mushrooms don’t really contain anything that you shouldn’t be able to find at the grocery store. The only real specialty ingredient is dry white wine. I typically use a Chardonnay. It adds an incredible depth of flavor, but if you don’t have any on hand, you can always use chicken or vegetable broth as a substitution.

You can definitely see how saucy and flavorful these sautéed mushrooms end up being. They’re a huge hit any time I make them.
Recipe:
Sauteed Mushrooms
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1/2 large red onion, roughly chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 lb white mushrooms, thinly sliced
- 1/3 cup dry white wine, such as chardonnay
- 2 tbsp worcestershire sauce
- salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp fresh chopped parsley, plus more to top If fresh isn't available, use 1/2 – 1 tsp dried
- 1 tbsp fresh chopped thyme If fresh isn't available, use 1/4 – 1/2 tsp dried
- 1 tbsp fresh chopped rosemary If fresh isn't available, use 1/4 – 1/2 tsp dried
Instructions
- In a large skillet, melt butter over medium high heat.
- Add onion and saute for 3 minutes. Add garlic and saute until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
- Add mushrooms, stirring to mix with the garlic butter mixture, then allow to brown for 3 minutes without stirring. After 3 minutes, stir again and cook an additional 2 minutes without stirring.
- Add wine, worcestershire sauce and all seasonings. Stir occasionally until all wine has evaporated and a sauce forms, approximately 5-7 minutes.
- Remove from heat. Taste and adjust seasonings accordingly.
- Serve and enjoy!
And there you go! This recipe is quick, easy and is so flavorful. Sautéed mushrooms pair nicely with nearly any meat dish, but our favorite protein to serve with this side dish is a juicy steak. They would also go really well on a mushroom swiss burger. Lastly, we’ve also made them with roasted chicken and that was delicious too.
