One of my favorite things to smoke or grill is chicken drumsticks. This is the drumstick rub that we use when we smoke or grill our chicken. It’s incredibly flavorful and tastes especially delicious when smoked. You could definitely use this on wings or breasts or thighs too. This drumstick rub can basically be used on any part of the chicken that still has the skin on!
Special Ingredients or Kitchen Equipment Needed
In terms of special kitchen equipment, I highly recommend the following supplies:
As far as special ingredients go, I typically have most of the ingredients on hand, but the following seasonings may not be ones you typically have:
- Ground mustard
- BBQ seasoning – This can be any BBQ seasoning that you prefer. We typically use McCormick brand, but any kind is great!
Pictures of Our Chicken Drumstick Rub
Just look at how amazing these look! You can see just how much flavor is packed into this drumstick rub just by the color of the chicken when it’s finished. Seriously, this chicken was perfection.
Recipe:
Chicken Drumstick Rub
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp paprika
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp ground mustard
- 1 tbsp BBQ seasoning, such as McCormick's BBQ seasoning
- 2 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 2 tsp Italian seasoning
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl.
- To coat chicken, ensure you are using skin-on chicken. Drizzle chicken in olive oil and rub all over. Then place chicken in a ziplock bag and pour all of the rub mixture in. Shake until chicken is completely coated. Cook accordingly.
This drumstick rub is INCREDIBLY easy to whip up on your own. Like I mentioned before, you don’t even have to use drumsticks. You could use breasts, wings, thighs, etc. as long as they are skin-on. Just drizzle them in some olive oil, toss them in the rub, and cook accordingly.
