Okay, now I know what you’re thinking: What the hell are waffle tots? Well, one of my absolute favorite uses for my waffle iron is cooking tater tots. I know it sounds weird, but it is one of the easiest ways to have quick crispy hashbrowns without waiting for the oven. For this recipe, I essentially make a giant crispy hashbrown patty and stack my favorite breakfast foods on top. Hence, the waffle tot breakfast stack. It’s sure to become one of your new favorites.
Special Equipment and Ingredients Needed:
The main thing you’ll need to make your waffle tots is a good quality waffle iron. We have this one from Cuisinart but a simpler one like this will also work! I do recommend having a waffle iron that flips because I find that it helps really smash the tater tots. The hashbrown patty ends up more solidified when the plates lock together. Lastly, I also recommend nuking the tater tots in the microwave first. If you don’t have a microwave, just allow them to come to room temp and thaw slightly. This will make it easier for them to mash together in the waffle iron.
Aside from a waffle iron, you’ll want a good set of tongs for removing the hashbrown patty from the waffle iron. I use these Kitchenaid ones. You’ll also want pots and pans for the rest of the breakfast! You can use whatever breakfast foods are your favorites, but I made my breakfast stack with sausage patties, scrambled eggs, and country gravy.

Here is how I chose to assemble my breakfast, but again, feel free to use whatever ingredients sound good to you!
You can see here that I’ve make my waffle tots, and then I topped them with sausage patties, the eggs, and lastly gravy over top of everything.
Recipe:
Waffle Tot Breakfast Stack
Equipment
- Flippable Waffle Iron
Ingredients
- cooking spray
- 15-20 tater tots, at room temp and thawed I nuke them for about 1 minute in the microwave to speed this process up.
Breakfast Toppings of Your Choice – Some Ideas
- Scrambled Eggs
- Fried Eggs
- Sausage
- Bacon
- Ham
- Country Gravy
- Salsa
- Syrup
- Ketchup
Instructions
- Spray your waffle iron on both the top and bottom plates using cooking spray. Allow the waffle iron to fully preheat. If your waffle iron allows you to adjust the temperature or cook time, for crispier waffle tots, turn the heat or cook time up higher.
- Once the waffle iron is preheated, add tater tots to the center of the waffle iron plate. Using a fork, fill in any gaps, moving tater tots so that they are all very close together, but not overlapping. Lower the top plate. (You may need to use gentle force here to get the top of the waffle iron to fully shut, ensuring all of the tater tots are smashed together and the plates lock together. Go slow to ensure you don't break the waffle iron.)
- When the light on your waffle iron lights up, or after about 3 minutes, use tongs to remove waffle tot patty to a plate.
- Top waffle tot patty with all of your favorite breakfast foods.
- Serve and enjoy!
And that’s all there is! This is such a simple and quick way to make breakfast. I promise you, you’ll want to make this again and again.
