This is one of my first times making a smoothie using my own recipe! The inspiration to make my own smoothie came from when I tried this recipe for Mile High Mitts’ spiced pear green smoothie earlier this fall. It was so good that I thought I would give a carrot cake smoothie a shot! I’m super happy with how it turned out and everyone else was too.

Here’s everything you’ll need!

The two main ingredients for this carrot cake smoothie are banana and you guessed it! Lots of carrot!

For the banana, I like to use a frozen one because it gets rid of any need to add ice, which can water down your smoothie and compromise the flavor if you aren’t able to drink it right away. The banana adds a lot of natural sweetness and flavor. That being said, when it’s frozen, it’s really hard to peel, so I just cut it into chunks and then cut the peel off with the same knife.

Next, you’ll need one or two medium-large carrots. It’s totally fine to add more or less carrot depending on your preference. I find using the smallest setting makes the smoothie less gritty than using the larger holes, so I grated mine very finely until I had approximately 1 1/2 cups of shredded carrot to really pack in that carrot cake flavor. Once your banana and carrot are prepped, you can toss everything except for your walnuts and whipped cream into the blender and blend until silky smooth!

After you’ve finished blending the smoothie, you can add whatever toppings you’d like! Here, I’ve added whipped cream, a small sprinkle of cinnamon, and chopped walnuts. And there you have it! A spiced carrot cake smoothie!

Cook Time5 mins
Servings: 2 Small Smoothies

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Box grater

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded carrot grated using the smallest holes of a box grater
  • 1 medium-large frozen banana, peel removed, cut into 1 inch chunks
  • 1/4 cup old fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup vanilla Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp peanut butter (optional)
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1/2-1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4-1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/8-1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 splash of milk (optional)

Optional Garnishes

  • chopped walnuts
  • whipped cream
  • a pinch of your favorite spice
  • shredded carrot

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to blender and blend until smooth, stirring as necessary.

Notes

If you omit peanut butter, I wouldn’t add a splash of milk otherwise the smoothie could end up too thin.
You are welcome to add more or less carrot based on personal taste preferences.
For spices, start with the lesser amount, taste after the smoothie has been blended, and then add more if desired.

Smoothies are pretty much the easiest thing in the world to make. They’re also pretty tasty without sabotaging your diet for the day. Let me know how you like this one in the comments below! For other yummy meal ideas, check out my recipes page here.
